LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola and Whittier have a long history of head-to-head swims, and that's what's on tap for Biola Swim & Dive this week as the Eagles and Poets do battle at the Triple Distance Challenge on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

TRIPLE DISTANCE MEET: Saturday Oct. 20 at 11:00 a.m.
This week's meet is the third head-to-head meet between Biola and Whittier since the 2014-15 season. Biola lost both of the previous head-to-head meetings, so it's time for a bit of revenge in Head Coach Ryan Kauth's second go-around against the Poets. Last year, Whittier had a 29-point advantage on the women's side and a 41-point advantage on the men's side. The Eagles have deeper squads on both sides this year and will look to eliminate that gap and get some wins. The event will feature 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard individual events for all strokes and also have 500-freestyle, 1000-freestyle and relay events. Coach Kauth has entered 26 swimmers in the event with almost all of them planning to swim four events on Saturday.

ABOUT LAST MEET: Biola had a strong start to the season at the PCSC Relays and PCSC Pentathlon. The Eagles finished in the top-3 teams in three of the four competitions (M/W two meets). Raymond Kam, Rachel Stinchcomb, Emily Silzel and some of the Eagles' freshmen had standout individual performances, with all of the teams' freshmen establishing their collegiate best times in their first meets. A lot of swimmers set new collegiate-bests in the pentathlon meet, because it was their first time swimming certain strokes (particularly those in the long medley pentathlon). There were 84 total new "top times" recorded during Saturday's action. This weekend will be a chance to get some true, new personal-bests in more regular events.

PCSC'S BEST: Raymond Kam and Rachel Stinchcomb were both honored by the PCSC for their performances on the opening weekend. They earned the conference's first Swimmer of the Week awards of the 2018-19 season. Kam finished sixth overall in the distance medley pentathlon, and was first among PCSC swimmers (only placing behind five swimmers from NCAA Division I school California Baptist). He led all PCSC swimmers with his swim in the 100-butterfly (:53.02) and 100-breaststroke (1:00.66) and was second in the 200-IM (2:03.84). Stinchcomb placed sixth overall in the women's distance medley pentathlon, finishing behind three CBU swimmers, a swimmer from Concordia Irvine and one more for CSU East Bay. Stinchcomb finished inside of the top-10 in three of her five events and was 12th in one other. It was the Eagles' first awards of the 2018-19 season.
