Bekah Roth celebrates

Roth Blocks The Best

Bekah Roth leads the conference with 16 blocks, earns defensive honor............

October 15, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Bekah Roth was a big part of Biola Volleyball's ability to become the first team this season to go 3-0 during its PacWest Conference Hawaiian road trip.

As a result, the sophomore middle blocker earned PacWest Defender of the Week, her first conference weekly honor.

"I think it's been great to see Bekah's progression over the last year," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "She's getting better and better each time out, and our defense has certainly gotten a lot better this year. We definitely could not get by without her this year."

Roth had a solid week in the Eagles' wins over Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo. She led the conference with 16 blocks total in the three matches, compiling around 1.5 blocks-per-set. Biola's team average headed into the week was 2 blocks-per-set, so that's an impressive number.

Her efforts helped BU compile 8, 11 and 13 blocks in its three matches and take over the conference lead in blocking. Roth is currently fourth in the conference, with 79 total blocks (an average of 1-per-set). Her and Sierra Bauder are both in the top-4 in the conference in that category.

Roth also added 13 kills on a .273 percentage and added five service aces in a productive week. She is seventh in the conference in aces this season.

Bekah Roth and Biola return home on Friday to host Notre Dame de Namur. They'll finish off the week with a road match at Concordia Irvine on Friday. The Eagles enter this week with eight consecutive wins.
