LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Madi deMetropolis and Luis Rodriguez were recognized by the PacWest Conference with weekly awards on Monday for their success during their respective teams' matches in Hawaii last week.

These are the first weekly awards for both student-athletes.

Madi deMetropolis picked up the highest weekly honor of the women's side as PacWest Player of the Week after tying for the PacWest lead with three points in two matches and helping the Eagles to a 1-0-1 record. The sophomore forward set up Biola's lone goal against the Hawaii Pacific Sharks by one-touching the ball in the 22nd minute to find Annmarie Alvarez in space last Thursday. Then she provided the game-winner in overtime on Saturday when she raced ahead of Chaminade defenders on a breakaway in the 97th minute and beat the keeper 1-on-1 to the right post.

Rodriguez set himself apart with a stellar performance against Hawaii Pacific that resulted in his third shutout of the year. As a result, he earned PacWest Defender of the Week honors. As the Sharks put massive pressure on Biola's defensive third early in the match, Rodriguez stood tall to make four saves in the first 15 minutes and five more the rest of the way to secure the Eagles' 1-0 victory

"Probably the player of the game would have to be Luis, as much activity as he had back there," said Head Coach Elkins after Thursday's match. "There were a lot of balls in the box, a lot of balls at him, it was a great defensive effort to get the shutout."

Both soccer teams stay in Hawaii to play Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday night before coming back to La Mirada to host Fresno Pacific on Saturday. The men's match against the Vulcans is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m Pacific Time kickoff, followed by the women's contest at 10 p.m. PT.
