LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Two members of the Biola community were selected to the 2018 Team USA Softball roster on Saturday morning. Former assistant coach Janie (Takeda) Reed and current assistant coach Nikki Udria will represent the US in international play over the next year.

Both women came to Biola after All-American careers at the University of Oregon. Reed coached on Head Coach Lorie Coleman's staff during the 2016 and 2017 seasons before getting offered the opportunity to join the coaching staff of the defending NCAA Division I champion Oklahoma Sooners.

The 2018 season will be Udria's first at Biola. She fills in for Reed after spending 2014-17 as an infielder for the Ducks. She earned all-region honors and Pac-12 All-Freshman honors in 2014 and then earned All-Pac-12 honors her final three years and NCAA Division I All-American honors her junior and senior seasons.

Reed has been on the Team USA roster since 2015 and played with the team all around the world. The 2018 nod will be Udria's first appearance on the roster.

Janie will represent USA on the World Championship roster, while Udria is on the separate Japan All-Star series roster. The World Championship roster is slated to compete at the World Cup of Softball and the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship, August 2-12 in Chiba, Japan, while an additional 17 athletes will represent the United States at the Japan All-Star Series and compete as a second national team at the World Cup of Softball.

Three other members of the World Championship roster also have some Biola ties. In October coach Coleman helped to host a "Faith In Action" night at Freedom Field, where some high-profile softball players came out to share their testimonies and spread the Gospel to youth softball players. Ali Aguilar, Michelle Moultrie and Aubree Munro joined Udria on the panel that night and all three were named to Team USA this morning.
