Never In Doubt

Biola imposed its will early and never looked back in its 69-50 victory over NDNU.

BELMONT, Calif. --- Biola hustled ahead of Notre Dame De Namur from the opening tip on Saturday, creating a 20-9 lead after the first quarter en route to a 69-50 victory.

The win is a significant boost for the Eagles, pulling them to .500 for the first time since they were 1-1. Biola is now 6-6 in PacWest play and 9-9 overall after collecting its second 19-point victory in as many games.

"It was exciting to see us step up to face the challenge of playing a talented, physical Notre Dame De Namur team," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "Our energy and teamwork are getting better every day, DeMoria White and Tatum Brimley did a nice job of getting the team organized and Jazz Benn played very well in all facets."

Freshman Jazz Benn played her best game of the season, setting new personal bests in points (20) and rebounds (13) for the Eagles second double-double of the season. Benn hit her only three-pointer of the game in the opening minute of the game to help Biola pull ahead 8-0. The Eagles collected 12 rebounds in the first quarter alone and limited the Argonauts to 18 percent shooting over that same span to create a lead that stayed in double-digits until the third quarter.

Biola nearly held NDNU to under 10 points again in the second quarter had it not been for two Argos layups in the last 45 seconds. The Eagles simply locked down at the defensive end of the floor in the first half and were particular good and preventing Notre Dame De Namur from scoring points in transition.

The Eagles prohibited the home team from scoring any fastbreak points or any points off of turnovers over the first 20 minutes and held the Argos to 20 points overall on eight field goals. Benn and DeMoria White matched that total and more with their 24 combined first-half points to account for the majority of Biola's early offense.

As anticipated, NDNU played very aggressively at the beginning of the third quarter in hopes of erasing its 16-point deficit. The home team had its best scoring period of the afternoon with 18 points and was able to climb within seven points of the Eagles with 3:27 left in the quarter because of lengthy scoring droughts from Biola that included a four minute scoreless stretch from the 4:49 to 0:28 points in the period.

The Argos would not be able to get any closer than seven though, due to the sharp shooting of Danielle Kennedy and Brenna Khaw in the last 10 minutes plus. Kennedy kissed a three off the window just before the end of the third quarter to push the lead back to ten and then proceeded to score five more points in the fourth to finish with 13 overall.

Khaw then put the game away by sinking all three of her fourth-quarter attempts from distance in Biola's effort to score a game-high 21 points in the period.

"Today we really played together as a unit, especially on the defensive end," said DeMoria White. "Our energy came from that unity and this was a total team effort at both ends of the floor."

The Eagles hope to make their upward swing a true winning streak on Monday by winning their third game in a row. Biola will travel to San Francisco to face off with Academy of Art (6-15, 5-8 PacWest) at 5:30 p.m.
