LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Saturday morning was a fun one as Lansing Pool played host to a home meet for Biola Swim & Dive for the first time since a dual meet against Azusa Pacific way back in the 2013-14 season.

The Eagles hosted the Chapman University Panthers for a shortened head-to-head dual that served as Biola's final regular season meet of the season. In celebration of the end of the regular season Head Coach Ryan Kauth recognized all of his seniors before the meet with a short ceremony to celebrate their careers.

"It's hard to have three different college coaches throughout your four years," said Kauth. "I wanted to do as much as I could for them this year to have an impact, event just with coaching them one year. They are the leaders of the team who I leaned on quite a bit and to be able to celebrate them today was really, really special."

After that and a quick prayer from President Barry Corey both teams were ready to get the meet underway. The teams swam 11 events on each side, including 100-yard stroke events, 100-IM, two relays and the 50-, 100-, 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle.

"I was definitely very impressed with what we did today," said Kauth. "We've got just about two-and-a-half weeks left. I knew Chapman was a great team and our girls didn't back down at all. On the guy's side they are getting better and better every time out. Even though we have a smaller squad the guys own it and want to go out there and compete."

The women's team has now won two dual meets against Chapman in a period of 15 days. The Eagles beat the Panthers at their place on Jan. 12 and won the head-to-head competition today by a score of 151-41. Biola as a whole beat CU 230-159 thanks to the strong swims from the ladies and some real close races by the guys.

One of the most intense moments of the meet was actually in a second-place finish as senior Tom Franicevich dove in as the Eagles' anchor in the closing 400-freestyle relay and had to make up three to four seconds on the Chapman swimmer in front. He closed the gap all the way to half a stroke by the team their 100 yards was over and touched the wall just under half-a-second behind the Panthers' 'A' relay team.

Outside of that the men managed three individual wins, highlighted by two Raymond Kam victories. Kam won the 100-breaststroke by almost seven seconds in a dominant performance (1:02.89) after having to really earn his win in the 100-IM earlier in the day. He completed that IM in 55.09 with the Chapman swimmer coming in at 55.58.

Noah Reed and Jake Allen competed well in the longest event of the day, the 1,000-freestyle. Reed won the event with a 10:33.36 with the freshman following pretty close behind him at 10:39.19.

The women's team won all but one event as they faced a Chapman team that was a little more shorthanded than a typical Saturday. The Eagles got individual wins from the likes of Lisa Tixier (100-breaststroke - 1:06.94, 100-IM - 59.28, 50-free - 24.64), Rachel Stinchcomb (500-freestyle - 5:24.60, 100-Fly - 1:00.99), Rebecca Brandt (100-freestyle - 58.24), Bethany Harper (200-free - 2:05.70) and Emily Silzel (1000-freestyle - 11:09.07).

Biola also won both relays convincingly, including having two relay teams finish ahead of Chapman's 'A' team in the 400-freestyle relay.

The 100-freestyle was one of the most exciting individual races as it came down to the wire between Biola's Brandt and Thomine Mortensen. Brandt ended up touching the wall first, but her 58.24 did not leave much breathing room before Mortensen's 58.42. It was a great performance from both swimmers, and the third-place swimmer Aly Archdale (1:00.21).

Biola now has a few weeks of tapered training ahead of it leading up to the season-ending Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference championships. The Eagles will finish of the year with the four-day meet at SPLASH! Aquatic Center from Feb. 14-17.
