Mason, Plendcio Honored By NCCAA

Mackenna Mason & Gabe Plendcio earn NCCAA Runner of the Week.

September 18, 2017

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second week in a row Biola Cross Country is making a noticeable impact at a national level in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Last week Ryan Thompson earned national runner of the week honors, and this week Gabe Plendcio and Mackenna Mason took home the awards.

"Mackenna just continues to impress me," said Head Coach Sean Henning. "She is going to show she's one of the best runners in the conference. Gabe is in great shape right now and will keep getting fitter. I think he'll be a force to be reckoned with this year.

Biola competed at the massive UCR Invitational this past weekend and held up well in a field dominated by NCAA Division I competition. Mason put up her best time (by mile) of the season in her first career 6k and Plendcio led all Biola runners with the best men's 8k time of the season.

Mason crossed the finish line in 21:17 to average five minutes and 42 seconds per mile. Plendcio's 25:04 is the new fastest time by any Biola runner this season. It's a 12-second improvement over the Eagles' top time from last week.

Cross Country has this weekend off, but the team resumes its 2017 slate next week at The Master's University's Mustang Challenge.
