YUCAIPA, Calif. --- Yucaipa High School is beginning to look a bit more like a Biola pipeline as Biola Cross Country and Track & Field adds another Yucaipa graduate to its 2017-18 recruiting class.
 
Mackenna Mason joins Tanner Dutchover on the Eagles following four varsity seasons for the Thunderbirds in high school. Mason is the school record holder in the girl's 3-mile and had top-10 times in the 1,600m.
 
"I started the recruiting process with Mackenna at the beginning of her junior year and have enjoyed getting to know her as a person," said Head Coach Sean Henning.
"She has had a lot of success in cross country in high school and her experience running at the state meet and competing at a high level will be very helpful to our team. I look forward to working with Mackenna and watching her grow in all aspects of her life here at Biola."
 
During her high school career she earned All-CIF honors twice and all-league honors three times while helping her team to four consecutive league championships and state meet appearances.
 
She was also the Ken Hubbs Award nominee from Yucaipa High School. The Hubbs award honors high school students who are exemplary in terms of athletic and academic achievements and contributions to the community.
 
Her academic achievements were off the charts in high school as she graduated with a 4.5 grade point average. She earned scholar-athlete honors, was a President's Award recipient and was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
 
"The cross country team's relationship with and love for each other was unlike any other team," said Mason. "A God-centered community and university was a big quality in a college for me and Biola's campus was a perfect fit."
 
Mason plans to study psychology and later enter into a career as a psychology teacher. She will begin her Biola athletic career with the Biola Invitational at Ted Craig Regional Park on September 9.
