LA MIRADA, Calif. --- CoSIDA released its 2016-17 Academic All-District selections for its "At-Large" sports on Thursday afternoon. Six Eagles made the grade, representing men and women's swim & dive, men's golf and men's tennis.
 
CoSIDA annually recognizes student-athletes from all levels of intercollegiate athletics for their academic achievements. In order to earn Academic All-District student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior and maintain a cumulative grade point average over 3.30 while contributing to their team's success.
 
Unlike scholar-athlete honors, CoSIDA honors are not automatically bestowed on any student-athlete who meets the minimum criteria. This award only goes to 11 student-athletes in each "division" or region.
 
The at-large awards go to student-athletes from beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
 
Biola had four student-athletes recognized from swim & dive and one each from men's golf and men's tennis. Michael Severi, Lisa Tixier, Sophia Dammann, Sammy Dammann, Kyle McAbee and Lucas Lee were each honored.
 
Lee and the Dammann's are each repeating. They were named Academic All-District in 2015-16. It's the first honors for Tixier, Severi and McAbee. McAbee becomes the first golfer to earn the honor since Kevin Vandekamp in 2014-15.
 
Biola's was the only Golden State Athletic Conference team to have any Academic All-District award winners on the men's side. Hope International had one women's golfer honored to be the only other GSAC school with an honoree
 
All Academic All-District winners are eligible to be selected for Academic All-American status. The list of Academic All-American winners will be released June 5. Biola's last at-large Academic All-Americans were Christine Tixier and Angela Kirschner in 2015-16.
