Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola Softball began its gloomy Friday morning in Riverside by completing its victory in the suspended game from back on Jan. 27. The Eagles picked up the action at the beginning of the fifth inning with a 6-1 lead and ultimately played to an 8-2 victory in seven innings.
Â
Kimmy Triolo got the win for BU as she completed her start and held the Golden Eagles to just two hits and two runs over seven full innings.
Â
La Sierra hitters were unable to do much of anything against her both last Friday and today as both runs that were scored came on wild pitches, not on anything that LSU hitters forced. She ended the game with five strikeouts, including four through the first two innings of action today.
Â
After being held to zero runs and just three hits in the first game of this doubleheader one week ago, the Eagles' offense woke up in a big way as they faced new faces from the La Sierra pitching staff.
Â
The team piled on 11 hits and eight runs, six of which were earned runs, after Head Coach
Lorie Coleman made some adjustments to the team's starting lineup. Eight different players recorded at least one hit in the game, with
Selina Sherlin's 3-for-4 performance leading the way.
Â
A week after putting up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning the Eagles' offense looked just as potent from the very start when the game resumed this morning. Biola scored twice in its first at-bats of the morning to extend the lead and had a base runner reach in every inning.
Â
Areana Ramos' double that score
Jay Perez from first base was the biggest hit of the morning. Ramos recorded a RBI on that play and scored three times herself in a great outing at the plate.
Â
The Eagles also played great defense in this contest. They committed no errors, after having two in the season-opener, and saw highlight plays from
Andi Hormel at shortstop and
Alexis Parker behind the plate.
Â
Parker was responsible for the final out of the game as she corralled a pitch in the dirt and caught a runner charging home from third base in a rundown. It was a heads-up play from the second-year Eagles seeing her first significant time at catcher.
Â
The win pushes Biola to 1-1 and they go into today's scheduled doubleheader at La Sierra with the full confidence of an 8-4 scoring advantage in the two teams' initial meetings.
