Bishop Wins At Bayonet and Black Horse

Austin Bishop wins the individual title while the Eagles finish third overall.

November 08, 2017

SEASIDE, Calif. --- The Eagles finished up play at the Pacific Coast Highway Invitational on Wednesday, finishing in the top three while junior Austin Bishop came out on top of the individual leaderboard with an overall score of 226.

Bishop now has the two most recent individual tournament championships for the men's golf team. Before this win and his individual championship at the ERAU Co-Ed Invite last season, the last individual winner was Kyle Schrader in 2012 at the CalPac Championships.

Bishop sank both of his birdies on the front nine in order to tie Fredik Ingul, who lead after two rounds. After a bogey on hole 11 brought Ingul back even with Bishop, the Glendora, California native pushed back for a one-stroke win by holding par on four of his remaining seven holes while Ingul double bogeyed on the 15th.

As a team, the Eagles collected six birdies on Wednesday. But they could not prevent Menlo College and Oregon Tech from overtaking them with resurgent rounds on the final day of play. Menlo and Oregon Tech carded the two best rounds of the tournament on Friday, with the Oaks just outpacing the Owls for the team title.

The Eagles second-best finisher behind Bishop was senior Tristen Ginkel, who finished 10th overall. Ginkel did not get the scores he would have wanted in his last 18 holes, but he was able to lean on his two strong rounds from Tuesday to hold on to the top-10 spot.

Ginkel finished just three strokes behind Bishop after play concluded on Tuesday.

The Eagles will have to wait until the new year for their next tournament. Come February 5th they will head out to San Marcos for the CSUSM Fujikara Invite at Shadowridge Golf Course.
