11 Eagles Named NCCAA Soccer Scholar-Athletes

The NCCAA recognizes 11 Biola student-athletes for their success on the field and in the classroom.

November 28, 2017

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Over the weekend 11 student-athletes on Biola's men's and women's soccer teams were named scholar-athletes by the NCCAA.

Each student-athlete selected by the NCCAA is and upperclassman and demonstrated their success in the classroom by maintaining a 3.4 GPA. They were also chosen for their contribution to their team's success on the team.

Five regulars in Head Coach Todd Elkins' starting XI earned scholar-athlete recognition.  Jarrett Pugh and Keaton Kerr were the Eagles' two leading goal scorers this season as Biola finished 7-5-1 in PacWest play and were both awarded by the NCCAA. The two senior forward earned scholar-athlete recognition alongside three members of Biola's backline: Clayton Mohler, Parker Setran and Riley Waldeck.

Head Coach Erin's Brunelle women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 12-3-2 record and added six scholar-athlete awards to its collective list of achievements. All three of the Eagles' captains (Janae Megorden, Cat Newberry and PacWest all-conference defender Madyson Brown) appeared on the list, as did senior Bri Mikalson and juniors Maddie Zimmerman and Emily Neighbors.

On the pitch Biola has an active streak of five shutouts in a row and has conceded just two goals over its last 10 matches. They'll look to continue that trend in the NCCAA Women's Soccer Championships this week. At the time of writing the Eagles' next match is Wednesday against Trinity International (Ill.)
