Tough From The Outset

Seattle Pacific controlled the game from the first quarter on the way to a 78-52 loss for Biola.

SEATTLE --- The Biola Eagles faced a tough test on Wednesday with the second leg of a back-to-back in Washington. The No. 16 Seattle Pacific Falcons took early control of their home game and kept the Eagles at bay in a 78-52 victory.

After the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-3 with PacWest play awaiting them after the Thanksgiving break. Biola flies to Hawai'i early next week to take on the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks on Nov. 30 and the Hawai'i-Hilo Vulcans on Dec. 2.

Seattle Pacific rushed out the gates with an 8-0 run after tip-off and a 17-2 lead after seven minutes. The Falcons went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in the first quarter and stayed hot in the second period to finish the first half shooting 52 percent from three.

The Eagles found it much harder on their own offensive end because of the Falcons' uncompromising defense. SPU forced 10 turnovers in the first period and limited Biola to 16 made field goals in the game.

The Falcons' excellent work in filling the passing lanes manifested itself in how few assists Biola had on its made baskets. The Eagles only had six assists on the night while the home team assisted on 20 field goals.

One of the things Biola did particularly well from start to finish was converting its free throws. For the second time in the last three games, Biola shot at least 87 percent from the charity stripe. DeMoria White and Brenna Khaw both went 4-for-4 at the line, while Kayla Macedo was 5-of-6.

Macedo was the second Eagles to reach double figures with 10 points after White led all scorers with 20 points. Macedo has scored 18 points over the last two games, a personal best in her year plus in a Eagles' uniform.

Down on the block, Sara Dougan collected 10 rebounds for the second-straight game and now averages 7.8 rebounds per game.

After the Eagles complete their two-game trip to Hawai'i they return to California for another road game at Concordia on Dec. 6. Biola plays its first PacWest home game on Dec. 16 against Fresno Pacific.
