Third Quarter Is The Difference

St. Martin’s pulls away with a strong start to the second half.

LACEY, Wash. --- The Eagles pulled within two points of the Saint Martin's Saints with 2:30 left in the game on Tuesday. But a strong third quarter from the home team and good free throw shooting down the stretch held up for the home team on the way to a 69-59 loss for Biola.

Biola's 17-3 run midway through the final period may have sealed up a victory for Head Coach Alan Nakamura's team had the third quarter gone differently. After the Saints concluded the first half with a 5-0 run, St. Martin's outscored Biola 19-to-10 in the third quarter to go up by 14 with 10 minutes to play.

Elin Johnansson scored seven of her 12 second-half points in the third quarter. She led the Saints with 22 points while collecting 10 rebounds for one of two double-doubles in the game. Junior Sara Dougan scored 11 points while nabbing 10 rebounds for Biola in the best game of her season thus far.

In addition to her double-double, Dougan got three assists and two steals while committing a single personal foul. She also went 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.

DeMoria White led the Eagles in scoring for the third-straight game on 16 shots while guard Tatum Brimley provided 10 rebounds.

White really found her touch when Biola put the home team's feet to the fire with a 17-3 run in the fourth quarter. The senior guard scored nine points in that stretch and missed just one shot in the period.

As a team, the Eagles shot 34 percent from the field and made just nine three-pointers.

They'll try to get their shooting stroke back tomorrow evening when Biola travels to Seattle to play Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m.
