Eagles Sweep Through Senior Night

Biola Volleyball finishes its regular season with 22 wins and second place.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was Senior Night inside of Chase Gymnasium on Saturday, and as often happens on that day all of the Eagles' seniors stepped up and played major roles in Biola's 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-13) defeat of Dixie State.

The Eagles sweep the season series over the Trailblazers with a pair of 3-0 victories over the 2015 PacWest Conference Champions. The win helped Biola finish the regular season with a 22-7 overall record and 15-5 conference record. The team tied for second place with Azusa Pacific, but wins the tiebreaker over the Cougars to be the No. 2 seed from the league.

"I couldn't write the script better tonight. The team came out so well and prepared," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "We blocked so well in game one and it changed the complexion of the match."

Biola cannot compete in NCAA postseason this season, even though they would've been a shoe-in for regional competition. Instead, the team goes to Kissimmee, Florida to compete at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship beginning November 30.

Tonight was all about honoring Tess Van Grouw, Ally Forsberg and Alli Beezer for their careers at Biola. All three were solid from start to finish as the Eagles dominated the competition in three sets.

Van Grouw led the team with 12 digs and added one assist. Forsberg set a season-high for kills with four and was in on two of the team's nine blocks. But perhaps the most impressive senior night performance was from the senior who's been on the team for the least amount of time.

Alli Beezer transferred to Biola last spring after one season at Nyack College in New York and two at San Diego Christian. She's enjoying being on a winning program this season and has stepped up every time Head Coach Aaron Seltzer has called her number this season. Beezer ended tonight's match with a season-high seven kills and hit .313 while adding a solo block on one of Dixie's big outside hitters.

"Seniors always come out well on seniors night. The energy was good, they prepared well and executed very well," said Seltzer. "Both of the Ally/is were spectacular. Tess did what she always does night in and night out. I am super proud of them. I'm even more proud of them as people than I am as volleyball players."

The combination of those three plus a massive 15-kill night by Sabrina Winslow and eight-kill, six-block night from Sierra Bauder made for a very enjoyable senior night. The postgame celebration and mingling lasted longer than the brisk one hour, six minute match.

The Eagles hit .333 for the match and ended with a 45-24 advantage in kills. DSU had just one more kill (24) than attack error (23).

Brinley Beresford played a big role in the Eagles' ability to shut down the Trailblazers' attack. The junior setter had a season-best five blocks to go with her 35 assists, five digs and five kills. We're still holding our breath to see her grab a triple-double this season, which is something Biola Volleyball hasn't seen in quite some time.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
