LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Join us at Chase Gymnasium on Saturday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. as your Eagles host the No. 24 Azusa Pacific Cougars (14-1, 7-0 PacWest) in a rematch of the teams' early-season five-set thriller! This time the Eagles have the home-court advantage and they've not lost at home to Azusa Pacific since September 2009.
The Cougars come into the night as the PacWest's top team in 2017. Head Coach Chris Keife's squad is the only team in the conference with seven wins to this point of the season. Azusa Pacific has four players on its roster who've earned PacWest Conference weekly honors so far this season. The Cougars' best player, Julianne Miller, also earned PacWest preseason all-conference honors. She's lived up to the hype so far in her sophomore season, leading the team with 138 kills. She's compiled that many kills with a conference-leading .449 attack percentage, which leads the conference by nearly 100 points.
Biola comes into the match hungry for a victory after suffering a heartbreaking five-set loss to Hawaii Pacific to spoil the final day of the team's Hawaii trip last weekend. All three of BU's conference losses this season (2-3) have come in five sets. The Eagles lead the all-time series over Azusa Pacific with a 49-32 overall record against the Cougars. Including the match two weeks ago the Eagles have won six of the 10 most recent matchups.
The match is the fourth head-to-head "
Cornerstone Cup" battle of the 2017-18 school year. The Cornerstone Cup is a yearlong athletic competition between the two schoos presented by West Coast Sand and Gravel. Biola currently holds a slim lead in the standings with 15 points to the Cougars' 10. Saturday's match is worth five points to the victorious institution.
We encourage all Biola students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends to make it out for the contest. Biola supporters are encouraged to
