Eagles Open In San Marcos

Biola Women's Golf began it's final fall tournament on Monday.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- Biola Women's Golf began the final tournament of its 2017 fall season on Monday at Twin Oaks Golf Club during round one at the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic.

The Eagles shot a 322 to sit in eighth of 15 teams with one more day of competition scheduled for a shotgun start on Tuesday.

Head Coach Jane Carr deployed the same group of five that she had with her at last week's National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament. The Eagles were led by Marcel Manalo and Tori Roeske who both shot 79s. They sit tied for 26th in the 80-golfer field.

Jules Loibl was just one stroke back from the pair of leaders. She carded an 80 on the merit of three birdies (all on par fours) and a handful or pars.

Alexis Gopfert (84) and Sophia Karnazes (87) rounded out the Eagles' scorers for the first round.

With the 322 Biola sits just 10 strokes back of the fifth-place teams. Arkansas-Fort Smith and CSU East Bay are currently tied for fifth at 312 and Victoria (B.C.) is the other team in front of the Eagles at 316.

Loibl and Karnazes were tied for third overall in the tournament field with three birdies a piece.

The Eagles also had two players competing separately from the scorers as individuals. Bella Larson ended the round with an 86 and Rachel Reynolds carded an 87. It was Reynolds' first round of the season.
