OAKLAND, Calif. --- For the second day in a row Biola Swim & Dive hopped into the Mills College pool to compete. Today it was for the annual Bay Area Invitational where the women's team placed second and the men's finished third.

"After a great Friday of competition, I put the team through a tough test by entering them all in five or six events for the day," said Head Coach Ryan Kauth. "It was definitely the most challenging competition that I plan to have the team endure as far as a single day program is concerned, and they handled it spectacularly."

The women's team earned 517 points to finish second behind CSU East Bay in the field of five. The men's team finished with 518 points to place behind College of Idaho and UC Santa Cruz.

The relays were key to the solid finishes in this invitational as the two teams combined for eight top-5 relay finishes, including a handful of second-place touches.

Lisa Tixier had a pair of event wins for the second day in a row as she took victory in the 200-butterfly (2:09.56) and 100-butterfly (:57.73). She also added a pair of top-3 finishes in the backstroke and breaststroke events.

"When they first found out about swimming six events in a day, a lot of them were intimidated," said Kauth. "But during the invitational they did a great job of taking it one event at a time, and not getting overwhelmed by the amount of yardage they'd be doing throughout the day."

Emily Silzel also impressed with an individual runner-up finish in the ultra-intense 1,650-freestyle. The sophomore finished the course in 18:41 to finish a few strokes back from the winner from CSUEB. In the same event on the men's side Noah Reed earned himself a fourth-place finish (17:31). Silzel had a change of pace and competed in the 100-breaststroke and placed fourth (1:10.86). She also placed second in the 50-freestyle to continue her fantastic day (:25.44).

Matthew Roe also had another strong day. His best finish was in the 100-backstroke where he placed fourth with a :57:58. Andrew Benson was two seconds back from Roe and finished eighth in the event.

"Today the team showed that they are taking a step in the right direction when it comes to racing tough and not be intimidated by any opposition," said Kauth. "I truly believe that these Eagles have already grown a tremendous amount individually, but more importantly, as one unit. We wanted to use this weekend to become closer as a team, and as a family, and I think we're leaving Oakland accomplishing just that."

Kauth and his team are back in action one week from today when they dual head-to-head with Azusa Pacific in Azusa.
