PALM COAST, Fla. --- Biola Women's Golf made history on Wednesday by completing Biola University's first National Christian College Athletic Association podium finish during the NCAA Division II era.

Head Coach Jane Carr's team finished 10 strokes in front of Campbellsville (Ky.) in order to lock-up a national runner-up position at the 2017 NCCAA Women's Golf Championships. Dallas Baptist won the tournament's team title behind the top-5 individual performances at the event.

The Eagles wrapped up this second-place finish with a third round score of 325. Marcel Manalo was the team's leading scorer for the second time this tournament as she shot a final round of 80 to end the tournament in 12th place overall at 239 (+23).

"I'm very proud of the way our ladies handled themselves in tough tournament conditions," said Carr. "Our initial practice round was rained out on the back nine so our players started the tournament without having fully seen the course. The course was playing tough having received a lot of rain the first couple days and the final day brought blue skies but severe wind."

Another freshman, Sophia Karnazes, was not too far behind Manalo as she placed 14th individually after Wednesday's 81. She recorded a 242 (+26). Today's 81 was a two-stroke improvement from yesterday and was a key reason the Eagles were able to maintain a good lead over Campbellsville and fourth-place Indiana Wesleyan.

After those two, the next three Biola finishers each managed to end the tournament with the same exact score, all tying for 18th overall with final cards of 247 (+31). Of those three, Tori Roeske had the best final round. She carded an 81 for a second-straight round to earn her top-20 finish.

Jules Loibl shot her second-best round of the event with an 83 on Wednesday. She ended her tournament with nine pars and a birdie in the final round. Alexis Gopfert, yesterday's leading scorer, shot a 90 in the final round to end in that three-way tie with her teammates.

Biola's golfers were excellent on par 3s throughout the tournament. Three Eagles were inside of the top-5 individual golfers in total par 3 scoring after 54 holes. Roeske, Loibl and Manalo were all just one-over on all par 3s at the end of the tournament.

"Coming in runner up to Dallas Baptist who shot three rounds under 300 was incredible," said Carr. "I think every team out there was playing for second after round one.  Our ladies knew going into the final day that Campbellsville wasn't far behind them and I could tell that they were fighting for every shot."

Roeske was also among the tournament leaders in pars. She shot even par on 34 of the 54 holes, which tied her for fourth-place in the field of 90-plus.

During the course of the championship events, Lauren Van Horn was recognized as Biola University's first NCCAA Scholar-Athlete recipient.

Biola Women's Golf has one more fall tournament coming up at the end of the month. They compete at Twin Oaks Golf Course early next week in the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic. Then coach Carr's team will return to the links in February for four more tournaments to gear up for April's PacWest Conference Championships.
