PALM COAST, Fla. --- Biola Women's Golf makes history next week as the team becomes the first Biola program to compete at a National Christian College Athletic Association championship event during the NCAA Division II era.

The women's championship field includes nine institutions competing for the title and a handful of individuals. The Eagles have the third-best average round coming into the tournament. Biola will play one round each day from Monday through Wednesday of next week.

"Our team is very excited to be representing Biola University for the first time at the NCCAA National event," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "Having just come off a team win at ERAU and two individual medalist wins we anticipate doing well in a very competitive NCCAA field."

Dallas Baptist and Campbellsville finished first and second at last year's championship event and are favored once again. However, the Eagles are flying high after their recent victory and are setup well to compete.

"Our goal is always to win and I think it is very realistic for us," said Carr. "I watched this group of girls go from a two stroke lead after 36 holes of golf to winning by 15 strokes after 54 holes in Arizona.  They have tremendous heart and fight in them.  They play for each other more than they play for themselves."

The first round of the tournament is scheduled for 7:15 on Monday. Follow live scoring via the NCCAA app, which is available in the App Store and Google Play.

Prior to the start of competition on Monday the competing teams will participate in the NCCAA's Christian Service Project. The project is in partnership Samaritan's Feet and Rymsfire Boys & Girls Club. All championship participants will serve over 120 local underprivileged children by washing their feet and providing new socks and shoes.

"Our players are also excited to participate in a Christian Service Project on Sunday afternoon," said Carr. "Our players have a heart to make a difference both on and off the course and this is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others. I think opportunities like this help our athletes put their athletic pursuits in perspective."
