Biola Bests The Birds

Eagles earn a fourth-straight PacWest win with sweep at HNU

OAKLAND, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball began its three-match NorCal PacWest Conference road trip with a smooth 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-11) win over the Holy Names Hawks on Wednesday evening in Oakland. It's the Eagles' sixth conference win of the year and third three-set sweep.

Head Coach Aaron Seltzer got contributions from all up and down his roster on this night, led by another tremendous effort from outside hitter Sabrina Winslow. The Eagles hit .342 as a team and limited themselves to just eight attack errors for the entire match.

Joining Winslow in making a considerable impact was Stephanie Jewett and Alli Beezer, among others. Jewett landed one of her season-best five kills to end the first set and Beezer was the one to end the second set with a slam. Beezer also had a new season-best with her six kills on a .545 hitting percentage.

Winslow led the way for BU with nine kills and hit .250. She ended one kill shy of a second-straight double-double as she racked up 10 digs. She was actually the team's leading dig-getter on the evening. In an all-around stellar showing the sophomore added two service aces.

Biola's serve-receive was on point throughout the evening. The Eagles recorded seven aces, which is their fourth-highest output of the season. At the same time the team never once gave up an ace to the hosting Hawks. It's the first time all season they've gone an entire match without being aced.

The Eagles also had six blocks compared to HNU's three, but the Hawks were cleaner around the net, going all night with zero block errors. Biola racked up four of those.

Bekah Roth was Biola's most effective blocker. She was in on five of the team's six blocks. She was also the one to lock down the match for BU as she slammed home her seventh kill of the night to end set three. She had seven kills with just one error to lead the team with a .600 hitting percentage.

Biola never trailed by more than two points at any time in the match. Their largest deficit was 3-1 at the very start of the second set. Outside of that it was smooth sailing from start to finish to earn BU its fourth conference win in a row.

Seltzer's squad improves to 12-5 on the season and is now 6-3 in conference matches. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-19 (0-10 PacWest). The Eagles play the middle match of their NorCal trio tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Biola plays at Academy of Art (4-14, 1-10 PacWest) for the first time in program history.
