PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- A busy fall season continued for Biola Women's Golf on Monday as the Eagles played 36 holes to open the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational held at Antelope Hills Golf Club.
 
Head Coach Jane Carr's team holds a two-stroke lead in the field of seven teams heading into the final round. Biola posted a 314 in round one and followed it with a 310 to stay just a nose ahead of the tournament hosts.
 
"Our fourth and fifth spot players really came through today," said Carr. "I'm very proud of these ladies because they really have a heart to play for their team and not just for themselves."
 
Those fourth and fifth players were Alexis Gopfert and newcomer Sophia Karnazes on this day. Gopfert shot a round one 81 and round two 82 to enter the clubhouse in 16^th place and just 19 stokes above par at the end of the day. Karnazes carded an 86 in her first collegiate tournament round and then shed six strokes in the evening round to post an 80. She holds 22^nd on the individual leaderboard at 22-over.
 
"Sophia played with a lot of poise and maturity today," said Carr. "She always has a smile on her face. She has a lot of bounce back ability and improving by six strokes on the second 18 holes today was incredible."
 
Biola's top-3 definitely carried their weight as well. Two Eagles are tied for second-place individually as Jules Loibl and Tori Roeske both sit one stroke behind the tournament leader at 8-over.
 
Loibl shot a 77 in round one and 75 in round two, while Roeske did the exact opposite with a 75 followed by 77.
 
"Our top three players in the line up bring such consistency and steadiness to our team," said Carr. "Tori Roeske started the second round with a double-bogey, only to come back with four straight pars, two birdies and then four more pars.  To start your second 18-hole round with a double bogey and then shoot 3-over for the day is just amazing."
 
Marcel Manalo was the Eagles' No. 3 player. She sits in a tie for ninth individually after shooting a 79 and 80. She's at 15-over and tied with an Embry-Riddle golfer heading into the final round.
 
"Marcel Manalo is another player who continues to post solid rounds," said Carr. "We are just beginning to see Marcel's potential. She had one big hole in each of her 18 holes today otherwise we would have seen her in the mid-70's. "
