COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer begins its run through the 2016 Golden State Athletic Conference tournament tomorrow afternoon in Costa Mesa as it battles the no. 3 seed Vanguard in a first-round matchup at 2:00 p.m.
Â
It is a rematch of the 2015 GSAC Tournament Final in which Biola won 1-0 at Al Barbour Field. The two teams met one time this season with Vanguard winning 1-0 thanks to a 45
th-minute score by Miguel Tapia.
Â
The Lions are currently receiving votes in the national poll and finished the regular season 11-4 overall and 6-4 in GSAC contests. The Eagles are unranked and enter the tournament as the lowest seed (no. 6) after dropping their final two regular-season matches to finish the year 10-6 overall and 5-5 in conference.
Â
Biola is again hosting the tournament's semifinals (2
nd round) and finals (3
rd round) so the team would hold home field advantage for the rest of the tournament if it can escape this matchup in Costa Mesa with a victory.
Â
The Eagles will look to bounce back in this game after a challenging end to the season. The team goes into the game with its offense on an upswing and its defense looking to regain its spot as the GSAC's best at keeping balls from out of the back of the net.
Â
Biola scored 24 goals this season and allowed just 11 out of its opponents in 16 matches. The Lions scored 29 goals and gave up just 10. Biola had a five-goal advantage in goals allowed (just 5 through 14 matches) heading into the disappointing final week of the regular season.
Â
The Eagles' last match at Vanguard was Oct. 21, 2015 and BU came away with a 1-0 win powered by a
Stephen Tanquary goal in the 72
nd minute. The last time the team played a conference tournament match at Vanguard (2014) it came away with a 2-0 loss.
Â
The match begins at 2:00 p.m. local time and will be streamed live at

Â
The winning team advances to the GSAC Tournament Semifinals to be played at Biola on Thursday Nov. 10.
