Box Score SANTA CLARITA, Calif. ---
Carlos Ballesteros scored the lone goal of the match in the 61st minute and the Biola defense clamped down from there as the Eagles ran their undefeated streak to five with a 1-0 win over The Master's College in the GSAC opener for both teams on Wednesday afternoon.
Biola, which moved up to No. 17 in the latest NAIA National Poll, improves to 5-2-1 on the season with its third-straight win and is now undefeated in its last five games. The Mustangs drop to 4-5-0 and to 0-1-0 in conference play.
Ballesteros netted the goal with a great play in traffic, knocking home a long throw in by Stephen Tanquary to break the stalemate and give the Eagles the lead.
The Biola defense and freshman goalkeeper Joshua Crichton took over. Crichton made two saves and faced a total of 12 shots in the contest to record his second shutout of the year and improve to 4-2-1 on the season.
The Eagles were outshot 12-9 in the contest including a 9-4 TMC edge in the second half. However, Crichton came up with both of his saves over the final 13 minutes of the game including a great diving stop in the 87th minute to preserve the shutout.
"We are focusing one game at a time," said Head Coach Bryan Kuderman. "We have recently changed our system and lineup to cater to the older players on the team. It seems to be working so far."
Biola closes out this five-match road trip with a rematch of the 2011 GSAC Tournament championship game, traveling to Irvine to face No. 6 Concordia in a GSAC match at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Concordia, which is coming off an 11-0 thrashing of Arizona Christian on Tuesday, are 7-1-1 on the year.
