WHITTIER, Calif. --- Senior
Jacob Ravenscraft and freshman
Daniel Chew scored goals as Biola picked up its first win of the season, defeating cross-town foe Whittier College 2-0 in a non-conference contest at Graham Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA preseason poll, improve to 1-2 on the season while the Poets fall to 1-1 on the year.
Biola picked up its first goal of the season in the match's 21st minute. Freshman midfielder
Kevin Kiser sent a quick pass into the box and found the back of Ravenscraft in the box. Ravenscraft gathered up the loose ball, beat the keeper with a quick move and finished easily into the open net.
In the second half, the Eagles tallied an insurance goal 10 minutes in. Ravenscraft sent a nice pass through to Check who turned to his right and shot it past the keeper into the lower left corner to make it 2-0.
From there,
Aaron Fenlason took over, recording five saves while facing 16 shots in the match.
"They were physical and fast on the back line but we were able to put them under a lot of pressure," said Head Coach Bryan Kuderman. "Overall, we are happy with the result and glad to have the monkey off our back."
Biola returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 8), traveling to Claremont College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
