Biola Rolls to 4-2 Victory Over The Master's

Kennedy Chongo

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Kennedy Chongo scored two goals including the match-winner as Biola rallied back to knock off The Master's College 4-2 in its regular-season finale on Saturday night on Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.

The Eagles wrap up the regular season with a 7-9-1 record and finish fifth in the GSAC with a 5-5-0 record. The Mustangs, who reached the NAIA Championship game last season, miss out on the playoffs, finishing ninth with a 2-7 conference mark.

Biola opens the GSAC tournament with a quarterfinal match at No. 4 seed Fresno Pacific on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

While the Eagles have been struggling offensively through much of the season, scoring four goals helping them come-from-behind for the victory.

The Master's opened the match with a goal early on, tallying a goal in the 23rd minute on a goal by Andrew Totaro. But the Eagles answered back just three minutes later, tying the game with a goal by Marco Ruvalcaba to tie the score.

Just before the half, Biola took its first lead of the night with a fantastic goal by Chongo just 58 seconds before the horn sounded.

Chongo would tack on a third goal in the 74th minute as Chongo finished a great cross by Carlos Ballesteros to make it a 3-1 contest.

The goal proved huge as The Master's was able to pull within one on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

Biola tacked on an insurance tally in the closing minute as Kenny Anderson scored on a break away with 44 seconds to go, making it 4-2.

The Eagles head back to the GSAC playoffs, this time to face Fresno Pacific as the No. 5 seed. Biola defeated the Sunbirds 2-0 when the two met last week in Fresno. Kick-off for the match is slated for 2:00 p.m. The other matches that take place on Wednesday are No. 8 Concordia at No. 1 Vanguard, No. 7 Westmont at No. 2 California Baptist and No. 6 Hope International at No. 3 Azusa Pacific.
