BOX SCORE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Senior forward Humberto Toscan scored in the 86th minute off a great feed from sophomore Zach Bautista to lift Biola to a 1-0 victory over California Baptist University in a GSAC match on Wednesday afternoon in Riverside.

The Eagles, who received votes in the NAIA national poll which was released on Tuesday, run their season-opening winning-streak to seven-straight victories--all via shutout--and remain perfect in GSAC play at 2-0-0. The loss is the third-straight for the Lancers and drops them to 1-3-3 and to 0-2-0 in the conference.

Toscan's goal was his fifth of the season and third in the last two matches. He netted the first and last goal in Biola's GSAC-opening victory over San Diego Christian College on Saturday. The senior's goal in the 86th minute came off a counter with Bautista sliding a pass from the left right to the feet of Toscan, who sent it in for the winner.

The Eagles' defense helped fight off a determined CBU side which peppered the Biola goal with 13 shots. However, for the seventh-straight match, the Eagles failed to yield a goal. Sophomore netminder Aaron Fenlason recorded three saves on the night to extend his scoreless streak to 641 minutes dating back to last season.

The Lancers controlled the ball for much of the game, creating numerous offensive chances. In the second half, Cal Baptist nearly broke through in the 75th minute with a pair of shots on goal within one minute of each other. However, Fenlason was there to make a pair of great saves to keep the shutout intact.

The Eagles had a chance to get on the board in the 84th minute as a shot from Jake Ravenscraft beat the keeper, but rattled off the crossbar.

After the Lancers had a scoring chance end up in a missed shot, Biola came right back down the field on the counter which culminated in the match-winning goal.

Biola returns to the pitch on Friday (Oct. 2), hosting Cal State San Marcos in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m. at Al Barbour Field.
