LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Higgins was named the first GSAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 2008 season, earning the honor for his play Sept. 1-7 as announced for the conference office on Monday.

Higgins, a sophomore from Albuquerque, New Mexico, made eight saves in a pair of games, posting shutouts in both to lead Biola to a 2-0-0 start to the regular season. Higgins, who has not allowed a goal for 278:50 minutes dating back to last year, recorded four shutouts in 2007 with a respectable 1.42 goals against average.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Monday (Sept. 8) for a non-conference road match at Claremont College at 7:00 p.m.
