BOX SCORE
CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Senior defender Brandon Gonzalez and sophomore Kennedy Chongo scored goals as Biola defeated NCAA Division III Claremonot College 2-0 in a non-conference match on Monday night in Claremont.
The Eagles stay perfect wit a 3-0-0 record to start the season while dropping the Stage to 0-2-0.
Gonzalez got Biola on the board in the 30th minute, converting a penalty kick to put the Eagles on top 1-0. Biola was awarded the spot kick after Claremont was called for a hand ball in the box while trying to defend a strong Biola scoring chance.
Chongo picked up his second goal in three games to extend the lead to 2-0, stripping the ball away from a Claremont defender, then beating the goalkeeper 1-on-1 for the goal.
Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Higgins picked up his third-straight shutout, turning away five shots on the night. Higgins, who earlier in the day was named the GSAC Defensive Player of the Week, has not allowed a goal in the last 368:50 dating back to last season.
Complete stats for the match were not yet available from Claremont.
Biola returns to action on Friday (Sept. 12), traveling to Soka University for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
