Eagles Fall 1-0 at Vanguard

Kennedy Chongo had a pair of shots to pace Biola

BOX SCORE

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Tom Culver scored the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute, leading Vanguard to a 1-0 win over Biola in a GSAC match on Tuesday night in Costa Mesa.

The Eagles fall to 5-2-1 on the season and are still looking for their first victory in the GSAC, dropping to 0-1-1 in conference play. The Lions improve to 4-3-1 on the year and are now 2-0-0 in the conference.

Culver's goal was one of just five shot between the two schools in the first half, but was good enough to put the Lions on top for good.

In the second half, things got a bit more exciting with Biola registering six shots and forcing Vanguard keeper Trevor Herrera to make three saves. However, they were not able to get the match-tying goal despite a furious finish.

Kennedy Chongo and Tony Montalovo led the Eagles with two shots apiece, with each putting one on frame.

Biola netminder Tyler Higgins made four saves on the night, but suffered his second defeat of the season.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Oct. 4), hosting Point Loma Nazarene in a GSAC showdown at 7:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
