LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Brittany Neill looped a shot over the goalkeeper from 27 yards out in the 56th minute to lift Biola to a 1-0 non-conference win over William Penn University (Iowa) on Friday night.

The Eagles (2-0-0) were once again the dominate force on the pitch, outshooting the Lady Statesmen (0-1-0) by a count of 14-0 in the match.

After a slow first half, the Eagles had a number of strong chances early in the second and finally got on the board 10 minutes in. Neill received a quick pass from sophomore midfielder Brianna Yarber, turned a shot from about 27 yards away, blooping the ball just over the outstretched arms of the William Penn netminder. It was the first goal of the season for Neill.

Biola goalkeeper Lauren Gregston earned her second-straight clean sheet of the season despite not having to make a save on the night. She did have a scary moment late in the game as she missed the ball on an attempted clearance leaving a William Penn attacker alone with the ball and an empty net. However, a Biola defender came rushing on to clear the ball away from danger. That wound up being the lone chance for the Lady Statesmen on the evening.

The Eagles start the season with a perfect 2-0-0 record for the first time since 1998 when the team posted a 10-5-1 overall record.

Biola hits the road this weekend to head up to Oregon for the Oregon Tech Classic. The Eagles face Menlo College on Monday (9/1/08) and tournament host Oregon Tech on Tuesday (9/2/08).
