Baseball Returns to NAIA Region II Tournament for Sixth-Straight Season

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola University's baseball team will make its sixth-straight trip to the NAIA Region II Tournament as the No. 3 seed and open against No. 4 Point Loma Nazarene University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6.

Azusa Pacific University earned the No. 1 overall seed as the GSAC Champions and will host the double-elimination tournament May 6-9. The Cougars open the tournament against the No. 6 seed, Concordia University.

The other first-round matchup features No. 2 Fresno Pacific University–which is making its first appearance in the regional tournament field–taking on No. 5 California Baptist University.

Biola wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 34-16 and took third in the GSAC at 23-13. Point Loma took fourth in the conference at 20-16 and were 28-21 overall. The Sea Lions won three of the four games between the two schools this season including a doubleheader sweep in San Diego. The winner of the game moves on to face the winner of the FPU/CBU game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. while the loser takes on the winner of the APU/Concordia game at 2:15 p.m.

As mentioned earlier, Biola is making its sixth-straight appearance in the NAIA Regional tournament and eighth in the nine-year history of Region II. The Eagles have won the regional title three times (2001, 2003, 2005), advancing to the NAIA World Series in each year. Azusa Pacific hosted and won the regional title in 2007 and reached the NAIA World Series.
