LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola's women's tennis team picked up its second-straight victory and third in the last four matches with an 8-1 non-conference win over Whittier College at the Biola Tennis Center on Friday.

The Eagles improve to 3-7 on the season with the win.

Biola picked up a sweep in the doubles competition to open the day. Marisa Flores and Brea Roth quickly dispatched of their opponents at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 sweep. Kristen Williams and Sarah Snyder fell behind 4-1 before rallying to an 8-5 winat No. 3 doubles.

Christine Garner and Nicholle Johnston's match at No. 1 doubles was close throughout staying on serve until the final game to win 9-7.

Biola picked up four straight-set wins in the singles competition with the other two matches going to a tiebreaker. Flores won at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Johnstonn won at No. 3 6-3, 6-2, and Williams took care of business at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2.

Snyder easily won the first set at No. 6 singles 6-1, then had to outlast her opponent 7-6 (7-5) in a much-closer second set.

At No. 2 singles, Garner lost the first set 7-5, but cruised to a 6-1 win in the second to force a tiebreaker, which she won 10-6. Whittier picked up its lone victory at No. 1 singles in a tight match between Roth and Jennifer Piggot. Piggot took the first set 6-2, but Roth came back with a 7-5 win in the second. Piggot came out on top in the tiebreaker, though, winning 10-7.

Biola returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 8) with a match against the University of La Verne at 1:00 p.m. at the Biola Tennis Center.
