LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola pitcher Josh Baas and centerfielder Chris Foreman were named the GSAC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, giving Biola a clean sweep of the weekly honors for the second time this season. The awards for the week ending March 29 were announced by the league office on Monday.
Baas, a senior from Redding, picked up a pair of wins for the Eagles last week. He allowed just one earned run and scattered 10 hits while striking out 16 in 13 innings. On Monday, Baas struck out 11 batters and allowed two unearned runs on six hits over six innings as Biola defeated Bethany 4-3.
Baas then came back on Saturday and gave up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts in a seven-inning, complete-game victory at San Diego Christian. He improves to 6-1 on the season with a team-low 1.15 ERA. He has allowed just six earned runs in 47 innings pitched and has 45 strikeouts.
Foreman, a junior from Tyler, Texas, continued his hot hitting by going .500 for the week. He collected 11 hits in 22 at bats including a home run, two triples, three doubles, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored. His best day came in Biola's blowout at Westmont where he went 4-for-5 with five runs scored and three RBIs. Foreman was just a home run shy of the cycle in that game.
On Monday, Foreman had a part in all of Biola's runs in a 4-3 win at Bethany. He put Biola up early with a two-run home run in the second inning. After Bethany came back to take a 3-2 lead late, Foreman drove home the tying run with a triple in the eighth, then scored the game-winner on a single by Nick Rotkowitz..
Foreman has raised his average nearly 77 points since the beginning of March after he got off to a slow start. He is now batting .288 on the season, leads the team with 37 runs scored and is a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
Biola has gone 8-1 in its last nine games to move into second place in the GSAC. The Eagles return to the field on Wednesday (Apr. 2) for the first of a home-and-home series with Vanguard University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
