TUSCON, ARIZ. — Senior Jacqie Hudson blasted a three-run home run and senior Sarah Jensen added a pair of doubles as Biola defeated Eastern Oregon 7-0 in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at the Tucson Invitational.
Biola lost the first game by a 2-1 score but improved to 13-15 on the season. Eastern Oregon is now 5-8.
The Eagles' seniors provided the bulk of the offense in the second game, combining to go 5-for-8 with 4 RBIs and four runs scored. Meanwhile, Freshman Erica Moyer and junior Emily Gray scattered just three hits and combined for the shutout.
Biola picked up its first run of the game in the top of the second as Krista Johnson reached on an error, then came around to score on an RBI-single by Keena Levert.
In the third inning, the Eagles' picked up their second run as Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Sarah Smith.
Biola added two more runs in the fifth inning as Jensen reached on a one-out double and was driven in by a single by Hudson. Levert then collected her second hit and second RBI of the game with a single to plate Hudson.
The Eagles broke the game open in the sixth thanks to Hudson's blast down the leftfield line. Smith drew a walk to open the inning, followed by a single to left by Jensen. Hudson then stepped into an inside pitch and launched her first home run of the season.
Moyer picked up the win to go to 2-5 on the year, surrendering just one hit and striking out six through four innings. Gray pitched the final three innings and allowed two hits with one strikeout.
In the first game, Lyndsie Roberts pitched a strong game, but was defeated by a pair of solo homers off the bats of the Eastern Oregon players.
In the second, Roberts surrendered a solo home run to left with two outs to Alison Stocich. It was the first hit allowed by Roberts in the game. She gave up another solo shot in the fourth to Megan Platz.
The Biola bats were struggling in the first game against EOU's Melodee Mildenberger, who gave up nine hits but allowed just one run in the game. That run came in the fifth inning as Hudson drove home Jensen with a single.
The Eagles had a chance to get on the board early in the game. Smith led off with a single followed by a one-out double by Jensen. Johnson followed with a fly out to left field but it was not deep enough to score the runner. Levert drew a walk to load the bases, but the Eagles' threat ended with a fly out to left by Erin DaSilva.
Hudson and Jensen both went 4-for-8 in the two games, each collecting a pair of doubles with Hudson driving in five runs and Jensen scoring three.
Levert, who returned from an early-season injury at the end of last week, went 2-for-4 with two walks.
Biola plays two more games at the Tucson Invitational, taking on Taylor (Ind.) at 9:00 a.m. and McPherson (Kan.) at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
