LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola pitcher Brian Albert and second baseman Hawkins Gebbers have been named the Golden State Athletic Conference pitcher and player of the week, respectively, as the conference released its first spring sports weekly honors on Monday afternoon.

Albert, a junior from Whittier, allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine over seven innings in Biola's 8-1 win over No. 2 Azusa Pacific in the second game of a GSAC doubleheader on Saturday. He did not allow a hit through the first 5-2/3 innings to the Cougars, who entered the weekend with a .345 team batting average. Albert improved to 2-3 on the season with the victory and lowered his ERA to 3.70.

Gebbers, a junior from Brewster, Washingon, extended his team-best hitting streak to eight games with six hits in 12 at bats as Biola won two of three GSAC games last week. Gebbers, who leads the team with a .395 average, went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a win at Westmont. He delivered the big blow in Biola's 8-1 win over No. 2-ranked Azuza Pacific with a 3-run home run in the fourth inning. Over the last 8 games, Gebbers is batting .536 (15-for-28) with 3 homers and 13 RBI.

Biola is 15-8 overall this season and 10-7 in GSAC play. The Eagles, who have won 10 of their last 14 games, return to action on Friday (Mar. 21) at 2:30 p.m., hosting Patten University in the first game of a two-game series at Eagles Diamond. The non-conference series closes out on Saturday (Mar. 22) at Noon.
