ORANGE, Calif. — Biola had four players scored in double-figures and played a strong second half, but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 78-69 in a non-conference game against Chapman University on Saturday night.
The Eagles fall to 6-17 on the season while Chapman wraps up its regular season with a 20-3 overall record.
Biola, which is in the midst of a stretch of four games in eight days, received 17 points from freshman Jenna French. She was 5-for-8 on the night including three three-pointers and recorded her third-straight double-digit performance.
Megann Alberts and Elise Paty added 11 points each with Summer Matthews contributing 10 points.
The Eagles hung with the Panthers through the first 12 minutes of the game, pulling within one at 16-15 on a jumper by Christina Barclay at the 12:35 mark. However, Biola was held off the board for the next six minutes as Chapman went on a 14-0 run to and held on to a 15 point lead at the half.
In the second half, the Eagles fell behind by as many as 22 before starting a slow comeback effort. Biola pulled within nine at 63-54 with four minutes to play on a three by Paty. But the Eagles were unable to pull any closer as the Panthers hit 12 of 14 free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
Chapman received 21 points from Lauren Kamiyama while Nikki Hayman and Natasha Belou added 14 points each.
Biola closes out this long stretch with a GSAC road contest on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at The Master's College. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
