LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola pickedup four wins at singles en route to a 5-4 win over the University of La Verne in a non-conference match no Friday at the Biola Tennis Center.

The Eagles improve to 1-6 on the season with the win.

Biola dropped two matches during doubles play to start the day, but picked up a win by default at No. 3 doubles. In singles action, La Verne won at No. 1 and No. 3 with Marisa Flores defeating Clinihia Chaves 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Biola won by default at No. 5 and No. 6 to tie the match at 4-4.

The dual came down to the No. 2 singles match between Biola's Nicholle Johnston and Lacy Whiles. Johnston took the first game 6-3, but lost 7-5 in the second to send it to a tiebreaker. Johnston then held strong to pick up the match win with a 6-3 victory in the third game.

Biola plays again on Saturday (Mar. 1) welcoming No. 2 Fresno Pacific to the Biola Tennis Center for a GSAC match at 1:00 p.m.
