IRVINE, Calif. — Megann Alberts scored 24 points and Summer Matthews added 17 as Biola swept the season series over Concordia University with a 70-56 win at the CU Arena on Saturday night in Irvine.

Biola runs its record to 8-19 on the season and moves up to 5-12 in GSAC play. Concordia falls to 10-17 and 4-13 in the conference. The victory gives Biola a two-game lead over Concordia for the eighth and final spot in the GSAC standings thanks to the season sweep.

Despite the final 14-point spread, the game was close throughout with Biola pulling away in the final four minutes and hitting nearly all of its free throws down the stretch.

Biola broke open a close game in the first half with a 15-3 run to take a 28-16 lead with 6:59 to play before the half. After the teams exchanged points over the next four minutes, Concordia scored seven quick points to pull within three at 34-31 and trailed by just three at halftime.

In the second half, Concordia took its first lead of the game on a jumper by Priscilla Angeloni to go up 39-38 with 14:42 remaining. The teams went back-and-forth for the next 10 minutes until Biola rattled of 11 straight points to put the game away late.

Biola had a strong shooting night, draining 53 percent of its shots from the field and going 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Concordia, on the other hand, struggled from the field, hitting just 31 percent and going 6-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Elise Paty and Jenna French each added nine points on the game for Biola. Karen Carney led Concordia with 15 points while Kayanna Nichols added 14.

Biola plays its final regular-season road game on Tuesday (Feb. 27), traveling to Fresno Pacific looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Sunbirds in La Mirada. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip off. A win in Tuesday's game clinches a berth for the Eagles in the GSAC tournament for the first time in four seasons.
