Eagles Add Three More Qualifiers at Concordia Indoor Meet

Natasha Miller was one of three to qualify for the NAIAs at Saturday's meet

IRVINE, Calif. — Qualifying is the name of the game and the Biola University Track and Field team played the game well for the second week in a row as it qualified three more individuals and events for the NAIA Indoor National Championships at the Concordia All-Comers meet on Friday.

The women's 4 x 800 relay team of Katie Thede, Kristin Schmidt, Erika Perez, and Kim Arroues raced by themselves and still easily better the “A” qualifying standard with a time of 9:41.

Freshman Natasha Miller cleared 5'4” in the high jump (the provisional “B” standard in the high jump is 5'4”) adding that event to her list. Miller also won the 60m hurdles and the 200m. However, both events were hand-timed and thus cannot be used for NAIA Indoor qualifying.

The Eagles distance runners came ready to roll as both Brian Ball and Ryan Richert qualified in the men's 5000. Ball opened his indoor campaign by winning the men's 5k in 15:06 and Richert finished fourth with a personal-best run of 15:16. On the women's side both Kristin Schmidt and Katie Thede qualified in the 3000 with Schmidt clocking a 10:24 and Thede crossing the line in 10:34.

That makes a total of six individuals and events which the Eagles have qualified for in just two meets this season. The NAIA Indoor Championships are slated for March 6-8 at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN

Biola returns to the track for the Azusa Pacific University Indoor Qualifier on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 8-9) in Azusa.
