LA MIRADA, Calif. --- No. 12 Point Loma Nazarene University netted both of its goals in the first half then held on in the second half to defeat Biola University 2-1 in a GSAC match on a chilly Saturday afternoon in La Mirada.
This loss drops Biola to 1-2-0 in conference play and 5-3-0 overall. Point Loma picks up its first win in conference play improves to 1-1-0 in the GSAC and 8-2-0 overall.
Biola did not play particularly well in the first half resulting in many chances for the Sea Lions. Their first goal came in the 31th minute as Rebecca Lewis took advantage of a fumbled ball by Biola netminder Lauren Gregston to put Point Loma up 1-0. Just six minutes later, Kari Moore won a scramble in the box off a corner kick to make a 2-0 game.
The Eagles were able to pull it together in the second half. In the 61st minute, Neill turned and struck the ball past the Sea Lions' goalkeeper Cissy Butler from 20 yards out to score for Biola.
Both teams were about even in the number of shots taken with the Sea Lions holding a slight 9-8 advantage. But the Sea Lions held their two goal lead despite being outshot 5-2 in the second half.
The Eagles go out on the road for their next conference match up at 7:00 PM versus Fresno Pacific University in Fresno on Tuesday (Oct. 7).
