LA MIRADA, Calif --- Biola fought hard against one of its toughest historical opponents, but fell short as No. 19 Westmont College got a late goal and held on for a 1-0 win over the Eagles in a GSAC match on Tuesday evening at Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles drop to 5-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in GSAC while the Warriors improve to 6-6-2 for the season and 5-2-1 and currently sits in third place in the conference.
Westmont was ready for a tough match and come out shooting in the first half with six shots to Biola's one. The onslaught kept the Eagles on the defensive side for the majority of the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Gregston was ready at the net recording two saves by halftime and failing to allow a goal to the Warriors.
In the beginning of the second half Westmont would take to the attack once again. Right after an aggressive attempt by the Eagles near the Warriors goal, Westmont countered with a quick attack and landed success in the 54th minute of the game. Westmont's Shanae Coker passed the ball ahead to Amy Lawson who beat the last Biola defenders, then strike it into the right bottom corner near the front of the goal to put Westmont up 1-0.
For the remainder of the half the Eagles wouldn't allow any Warrior to carry the ball without pressure. Biola made three shots to combat Westmont's two but were not able to field the back of the net.
Only two more regular season matches remain for the Eagles. Their next game will be against No.6 California Baptist University on Wednesday (Oct. 29) at 7:00 pm at Al Barbour Field.
