FULLERTON, Calif. --- Despite holding a 24-7 edge in shots, Biola was unable to find the back of the net, falling 2-0 to Hope International University in a GSAC match on Tuesday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton.
The Eagles dropped their third-straight match and fall to 6-5-1 on the season and are now 1-4-1 in the GSAC. The Royals improve to 8-2-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
Biola seemed to dominate the match from the start, outshooting Hope 11-2 in the first half. However, Hope goalkeeper Matt Fike made six saves in the period as the two teams went to the half scoreless.
Things continued the same way to start the second until Karl Wiese drove a free kick into the back of the net in the 58th minute to give Hope a 1-0 lead.
In the 76th minute, Hope struck again as Billy Monnier curved a corner kick right into the net to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Biola had a frantic finish, but was unable to get on the scoreboard.
Fike made nine saves on the afternoon to earn the shutout and give Hope its first victory over Biola in the program's history. The Eagles held a 14-0 edge in the all-time series coming into the match.
The loss is Biola's third-straight and drops the Eagles to 1-5-1 since opening the season at 5-0-0, the best start in the program's history.
Biola has a tough road ahead, heading to face No. 5 Azusa Pacific in a GSAC match on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1:00 p.m.
