BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Brittany Neill scored Biola's lone goal and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Gregston made eight saves as Biola earned a 1-1 draw with No. 18 Concordia in a GSAC match on Saturday afternoon in La Mirada.
Biola improves to 5-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the GSAC while Concordia moves to 6-2-2 and 2-1-2 in conference action.
The match was defensive battle from start to finish with the teams combining for just 16 shots in 110 minutes. Biola was the first team to break through as Neill hit a hard cross into the box which deflected off the keeper and into the goal. The tally came in the 83rd minute and appeared to be the match-winner.
However, Concordia came right back and earned a free kick about 20 yards out on its next attack. Caitlin Schneider then stepped up and blasted a shot which richocheted off the wall and into the goal to tie the score.
Neither team had a shot in the first overtime, but Concordia stepped up the pressure late in the second. Schneider had the first shot, a blast from about 20 yards away which Gregston made a sprawling save on. With under a minute to play, Concordia got another chance as Aubree Caruana broke past the last Biola defender leading to a one-on-one with Gregston. Caruana tried to go to the lower left corner, but Gregston made an amazing sprawling save to preserve the tie.
The match was the third overtime contest for Biola in the last four matches with the team going 1-1-1 in extra time.
Gregston finished the match with eight saves while facing 10 shots. Jamie Carney, Concordia's netminder, recorded four saves.
Biola returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to face Hope International in Fullerton at 3:00 p.m.
