BOX SCORE
ATHERTON, Calif. --- Senior Ryan Parker and freshman Humberto Toscan each had a goal and an assist to lead Biola to a 5-1 win over Menlo College in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon in Atherton.
The Eagles wrap up a long five-game road trip with the victory and improve to 3-3-0 on the season while the Oaks drop to 2-2-0 on the year.
Biola opened the game on a rather auspicious note, surrendering a goal in the third minute of the match after a miscommunication between the last Eagle defender and the goalkeeper gave Oswaldo Rodriguez an open shot at the net.
Biola bounced right back, though, scoring the equalizer in the eighth minute on a blast by junior Nick Bautista.
The Eagles would waste no time taking the lead back as Parker scored on a long shot from 25 feet out to give Biola a 2-1 advantage in the 11th minute. Toscan started the scoring chance by switching the field with a long pass to Parker, who chested it down and blasted it past the Oaks' keeper.
The two would team up again to give Biola its third goal of the afternoon. This time Parker crossed the ball into the box from the left side and found Toscan who headed it in.
The Eagles final two tallies came thanks to the Friehe brothers who each scored their first goals of the season. Sophomore Derek Friehe netted the first of the two, scoring an unassisted goal in the 68th minute.
Freshman Phillip Friehe would add the final Biola tally, receiving a great pass from freshman Caleb Lawrence and scoring from 10 feet out.
Biola registered a season-high 30 shots while facing just 10 from the Penguins. Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Higgins made three saves and allowed just the early goal to earn his third win of the season.
The Eagles finally return home this week as they host the Biola Classic, a four-team tournament featuring Simon Fraser University (B.C.), Trinity International University (Ill.) and Vanguard University. Biola will open against Trinity International on Friday (Sept. 14) and play Simon Fraser on Saturday (Sept. 15). Both matches are at 7:00 p.m.
