Eagles Fall 1-0 to Cal State Dominguez Hills

Lauren Gregston made 14 saves for Biola

BOX SCORE

CARSON, Calif. --- Despite facing a relentless attack from one of the premier teams in the NCAA Division II ranks, the Biola University women's soccer team stood strong, allowing just one "unlucky" goal in a 1-0 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Tuesday night at Toro Stadium in Carson.

The Eagles, who surrendered the one goal despite facing 28 shots on the night, fall to 1-2-0 on the season. The Toros improve to 3-0-1 with the win.

By far, the star of the match was Biola goalkeeper Lauren Gregston. The freshman netminder made 14 saves on the night including stopping four one-on-one scoring chances by the Toro offense.

The only mistake she made on the night came in the 38th minute, though there wasn't that much she could do about it. As the Eagles defense was under pressure by the Toro offense, the final Biola defender passed the ball back to Gregston. She went to clear the ball, but it hit an oncoming CSUDH attacker and bounced into the open net.

The Eagles offense tried to get back into the match, but had trouble getting past the Toro defense. They had two great chances to score, one in each half. In the 25th minute, freshman forward Tara Roetter snuck behind the defense of the Toros and took the ball down the near side but her shot was saved by Toro defender Alysia Barone.

In the 88th minute, Roetter had another chance with a header toward the Toro net, but again Barone was there to thwart the attempt.

This was the second of four matches Biola is scheduled to play against NCAA schools. In the first, the Eagles fell to NCAA Division II Cal Poly Pomona by a 2-1 count. Biola will play Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Bakersfield later this season.

Biola will have a bit of a break as they don't play another match for nine days. The Eagles return to action on Friday, September 14 for a non-conference home match against Trinity International University of Illinois. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
