LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University outside hitter Meghan Warkentin (Scheenstra) has been named the NAIA National Volleyball Volleyball Player of the week for Aug. 27-Sept. 2 the national office announced Wednesday.

Warkentin, a junior from Visalia's Central Valley Christian School, recorded 79 kills (5.64/game) with a .392 hitting percentage to lead No. 11 Biola to four wins in as many matches at the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival hosted by Concordia last week. She also had 40 digs (2.86/game), six aces, four blocks and three assists.

In the first match against Olivet Nazarene, she had 18 kills and two aces as the Eagles pulled off the first of three sweeps. Warkentin followed that off with 28 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in a five-game win over No. 6 Albertson College (Idaho).

On Saturday, she recorded 16 and 18 kills, respectively, against Great Falls (Mont.) and Westminster (Utah)--both ranked in the NAIA Top-25 poll--as Biola swept both teams.

Warkentin was also named the GSAC and NAIA Region II Player of the Week, making her eligible for the national honor.

Also earning national honors were two other GSAC players. Shu Liu of Fresno Pacific was named the national Setter of the Week while Westmont's Malinda Reese earned the Libero of the Week honor.

Biola's next match is on Thursday (Sept. 6) as the Eagles open play in the Golden State Athletic Conference at home against Vanguard University. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
