Eagles Upset Bid Falls Short in 2-1 Loss at No. 5 Point Loma

Gabby Jolin had the goal for the Eagles

BOX SCORE

SAN DIEGO --- Freshman forward Gabby Jolin scored a goal for Biola but it was not enough for the Eagles to pull off the major upset as No. 5 Point Loma Nazarene held on for a 2-1 win on Saturday in San Diego.

The Eagles are now 2-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play while the Sea Lions move to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in GSAC.

Point Loma struck first with a goal by Amanda Rowand in the 31st minute. But just after the half, the Eagles tied the score with the goal by Jolin.

But things began to go wrong for Biola in the 70th minute as Jolin was sent off after receiving a red card. A few minutes later things got worse as Point Loma was awarded a penalty kick which was converted by Rebecca Lewis.

Moments later another red card was shown, this time to Bryna Neill forcing the Eagles to play with just nine players for the final 27 minutes.

However, the Biola defense stepped up and held the high-scoring Sea Lions off the board as the game ended 2-1.

Freshman netminder Lauren Gregston made 11 saves and faced 18 shots. Cissy Butler made two saves for the win.

Biola takes on Fresno Pacific University in a GSAC match on Tuesday (Oct. 2). Please note that the start time has been changed from what was originally scheduled and is now 4:00 p.m.
