Biola Falls 1-0 to No. 22 Point Loma Nazarene

BOX SCORE

SAN DIEGO --- Biola University faced a barrage of shots and had a number of quality chances of its own, but was unable to pull off its second-straight upset, falling 1-0 to No. 22 Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday in San Diego.

The Eagles drop to 5-6-0 and 1-2-0 in GSAC play while the Sea Lions stay perfect at 8-0-0 and 2-0-0 in conference action.

Point Loma's lone goal came in the 39th minute off the foot of Gareth Moore but was deflected of Biola's goalkeeper and was actually sent in by another Eagle defender.

The unlucky bounces would be enough for the Sea Lions, who managed to keep the Eagles from scoring and held them to just nine shots in the match.

In the second half, Biola got a great chance to capitalize as Point Loma's Jon Fielding was sent off with a red card in the 73rd minute. But the Sea Lion defense clamped down even tighter and found a way to keep Biola off the scoreboard.

The Eagles best chance came late as they earned a corner kick with under a minute remaining. However, freshman Jake Ravenscraft's header in the final 20 seconds went just high.

Eagle netminder Tyler Higgins made five saves and faced 21 shots in the loss.

Biola returns home for a big match against another national-ranked NAIA school, this time hosting No. 16 Fresno Pacific on Wednesday (Oct. 3) at 7:00 p.m.
