BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's defense was on display as the Eagles fought hard and earned a point against No. 10 Vanguard, playing to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Eagles move to 2-4-1 on the season and improve to 0-1-1 in GSAC play. The Lions are now 6-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference.

Both teams played solid defense with the Eagles stepping up against the high-powered Lions' squad and holding them without a goal for the first time this season.

Biola came out firing and had a great scoring chance in the 16th minute. Sophomore Ashley Moseley got a look at an open goal off a scramble in the box and took a quick shot which beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by a Vanguard defender. Sophomore Becky Mossman followed-up with a shot but it went just high.

Vanguard nearly got on the board in the 78th minute as Ivana Mendez broke free and dribble past three Biola defenders only to have her shot sail wide.

Moments later, Biola sophomore forward Kahlie Reinecke fought for and won a ball between two Lion defenders, broke down the near side and sent a beautiful cross into the box. Senior Bryna Neill slid into get a good shot off, but it also went just over the bar.

Vanguard stepped up the attack in overtime, outshooting Biola 7-1 in extra time. The Lions best two chances came in the final minute of the second overtime as a pair of fouls on the Eagles gave Vanguard two free kicks from just outside the box. However, both shots were off-target and the match ended without a goal.

Freshman Lauren Gregston made three saves to earn her second shutout of the year.

These two teams are no stranger to overtime. Five of the last six meetings between the two have gone overtime including the last four straight. It was also the fourth overtime contest for Vanguard on the season.

Biola's road does not get any easier as the Eagles travel to San Diego to take on No. 5 Point Loma Nazarene in a GSAC contest in San Diego on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 3:30 p.m.
